Nadi - Monday, 1 July 2019

Today was a totally unscheduled free day in Nadi. We slept in a bit and finally got to see the resort in the daylight. The resort opened in February and it really is gorgeous. However, there are some issues that keep it from getting a 5 star rating. A number of our group had no hot water for showers and the wait service in the restaurants really need some more training.

We opted to take a shuttle arranged by the resort into Nadi town at 10. The area through which we drove is the epitome of an impoverished country. There were worn down homes, wrecked and damaged cars sitting in the front yard, and cattle grazing along road side. (Thanks to Barbara for some of these pictures.

Our main reason for heading into the town was to see the Hindu temple there. But first there was a stop at Jack’s of Fiji. This was an amazing store that had everything Fiji that you could think of. After doing some shopping we headed out to the temple.

It was really warm and the walk to the temple reminded us that we weren’t in New Zealand any longer.

The temple was a rainbow of colors and sacred. We all had to put on sarongs, even the men. It was interesting to see the offerings given by the worshippers.

The shuttle was going back at 12:30 and so we caught that. Stopped for a bite of lunch after changing into swim suit. I ordered a bowl of rice pudding and a margarita. Would you believe an hour and a half for that to be served. The restaurants really need to get their act together.

It was still enough time to have some quality pool time. Staked out a chaise in the shade with my book and relaxed. The water was cool and refreshing.

Dinner tonight was included at Kah, a Thai restaurant on the property. We headed down early to catch the sunset. Fijian sunsets are renowned, but until you see one, you just can’t believe them.  Took loads of pictures and sharing a lot here.

Our dinner was served family style and included some prawn crackers, chicken satay, prawns, chicken with cashews, duck curry, and coconut panne cota and a sticky brown rice pudding.

Just a lovely day in paradise topped by a Buccos win!

We had agreed not to set an alarm last night, but since the restaurant closed at 9:30, we knew that we needed to be up by 8. We just made ...
