We are off again, this time on another Jay Buckley baseball trip to the Midwest. After doing 13 flights in the lands down under, we opted to drive to our meet-up point in Chicago and spend a day before the actual tour begins.
Left Mars about 9:30 and got gas and were on our way. Can I just say that Ohio is a wide boring landscaped state. We stopped a couple of times to stretch and use facilities and another to get gas. Our Apple maps was quite puzzling in that the travel time seemed awfully long considering the number of miles. After hitting traffic with only 60 miles to go, it said 2 hrs to destination. Well, it wasn’t that bad, but almost. Had a strange thing happen as we went through a toll plaza. The transponder reader was malfunctioning so everyone in the E-Z pass lane had to stop and read the number on their transponder. Lost about 20 minutes there and then another 15 or so waiting for a train to pass.
But we arrived at the hotel close to 5 and that was ok. Pleasantly surprised at how modern our hotel is. We will be here three nights and what a comfortable room it is. Two bedrooms, bar sink, and a lovely bath.
Got settled in and tuned in to the Pirates game. Since we really hadn’t had much to eat today - some twizzlers and combos in the car, we headed downstairs to dinner about 6:30. There is a Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse at the hotel and it worked out just fine.
A nice glass of wine, a cup of Cajun clam chowder, some chicken parm for me and Earle had Caray’s Chicken Vesuvio, a chicken and garlic dish with roasted potatoes. It all hit the spot.
The restaurant is full of Caray memorabilia and outside is a Holy Cow.
We went back to the room and got stuff sorted out for tomorrow and the end of the game. OMG, these relief pitchers. It is so sad.
It’s good to be in AC since it is still in the high 90s here.
