Christchurch to Auckland to Nadi, Fiji - Sunday, 30 June 2019

Today was a travel day. Wheels rolling at 8:00! Watched a bit of the Pirates at breakfast. They are playing well, but lost this one in extra innings. At least the hitters are coming through.

Made it to the Christchurch airport in a short time and checked in with JetStar Airlines for our trip to Auckland. We were there in plenty of time so browsed the 3 shops and spent the last of our NZ dollars.

Our flight was delayed about 20 minutes which made our connection from Auckland to Nadi, Figi very tight. In Auckland we waited what seemed an eternity for our luggage to appear. Since  we were
connecting internationally, we had to claim the bags, take a shuttle to the international terminal recheck the bags, go through security and then walk 19 minutes to the gate. I felt like we were on Amazing Race. It was a sprint, but we all made it and collapsed into the seats.

The flight was very bumpy and because of the turbulence a number of the back rows of the plane never received any food. Next to the one flight we took to London a number of years ago, this was the bumpiest ever. Did get some decent shots from the plane as we left New Zealand.

We arrived in Fiji just about on time and then sat no more than 50 yards from the gate waiting to disembark for an hour and a half. There was lightning around the airport and all the ground crew was grounded. That was not a pleasant time.

Finally we were able to get off the plane and clear immigration, picked up the luggage and met our driver/guide, Jo,  for the time in Nadi. It was about a 20 minute drive to the hotel, the Nadi Pullman Resort and Spa. We got to the room which was beautifully appointed and went to meet the crew for a bite to eat. There were 4 restaurants at the resort and for tonight we chose Barefoot, a casual one poolside. Tandori chicken was very good. Others had burgers or fish. Service was very slow and it was late to get back to the hotel room.

A bit of unpacking and sorting out before hitting the sack.

We had agreed not to set an alarm last night, but since the restaurant closed at 9:30, we knew that we needed to be up by 8. We just made ...
